Cross Country Skiing with Kids | Horseshoe Prairie
Snow is one of my favorite places to shoot. It's almost like you're in a white box! You have an automatic reflector at all angles. And the colors are so vibrant!
I shot in manual mode, because the bright snow tricks the camera and causes it to produce under-exposed photos. I didn't trust the light meter, but kept it farther to the right to get the brightness I needed.
Here are the details for the first photo in this series {shot with my 50mm lens}: ISO 400 f6.3 1/320sec
Trip Details:
Horseshoe Prairie -- a fabulous cross-country ski area up in the Blue Mountains, about an hour from Milton-Freewater, OR and an hour from La Grande, OR. There is a sno-park with a large parking lot {Andies Prairie} on the other side of the road. Simply park and gear up, then hike over to the trail across the highway. Great snow from December through March. We have spent glorious hours both snowshoeing and cross-country skiing here.
