Travel in my Bones | Weekending
I'm weary, but it's such a good kind of tired feeling. We've been adventuring like it's our job. I just feel so alive and so ME when I'm driving to our next destination, hiking to a waterfall, lying in the sun on the beach, or lying in my sleeping bag under the stars. These last few days have ruined me for normal life.
I feel so stretched by travel. I practice being brave, being independent, being self-sufficient. I just feel my horizons expand along with the miles under the tires.
And the icing on the cake has been the time spent with family and friends on this trip. Hot meals, playtime with cousins, jumping on the trampoline with new friends, hugs by expectant grandparents...rich cream cheese icing.
The quotes below really sum it all up.
weekend sharing ||
- I listened to Under the Tuscan Sun while driving last week. Again -- the slow life. It beckons.
- These two songs, one about California and one about nature's love.
- Sweet potatoes, loaded and making me drool.
- Thinking, as always, about living life to the fullest and spending a lot of time inside my element.
- Really wanting to flesh this idea out and continue teaching my children about grace and brokenness.
Old Pine by Ben Howard
Hot sand on toes, cold sand in sleeping bags,
I've come to know that memories
Were the best things you ever had
The summer shone beat down on bony backs
So far from home where the ocean stood
Down dust and pine cone tracks
We slept like dogs down by the fire side
Awoke to the fog all around us
The boom of summer time
[Chorus]
We stood
Steady as the stars in the woods
So happy-hearted
And the warmth rang true inside these bones
As the old pine fell we sang
Just to bless the morning.
