"I Play With My Child"
"You're always too busy to play," my child says. What am I doing that's more important than playing with her, than being with my child? The laundry, the dishes, paperwork? I have to do those things, yes. But I don't want to miss the magic of life because I'm too occupied with the business of living. You're never to old to play, to enjoy games, to laugh, to have fun. Most of us have just forgotten how. While my child is young, we will run on the beach, play peek-a-boo and hide-and-seek. When she's older, we'll watch a movie, go skating and shopping. All too soon I'll call my child, and she'll be too busy for me. She'll be playing with her own children.
Today I will stop and play. I will leave the sink filled with dishes and go do something fun with my child.
God, help me to enjoy the moments you've given me this day by taking time to play with my child.
The city streets will be filled with girls and boys playing there. Zechariah 8:5
This is an excerpt from one of my favorite books -- always helping me to see the big picture and feel more confident in my mothering abilities. It's called I'm a Good Mother by Gigi Schweikert.
